Tasty Recordings delivers again. The style hasn't changed, it's still the same, awesome disco influenced jacking house.

+ as a bonus I have a free track from SoundCloud:
Bit Funk - 9 Iron I haven't got the words to describe the beauty of this one. It's magic! Enjoy!

Addicted to Groove

Buy at BandCamp

A real nice soulful track from my favourite soulful house producers on SoundCloud, the Groove Technicians. You can buy the track for only £1 on their own BandCamp, which means that all of the profit will go to them!
If you like it, also check out their other tracks!

Audio Jacker has really been on fire lately. I mean name a house producer who has made a full-length album? Yeah, this guy, and to respect that I have collected my favourites from that album here. In my opinion the best track is D 4 Damager, that beautiful sampled background, those jackin' beats and that funky rap make it something distinguished. But again, the other ones aren't far either. Hot stuff.

Over You

Warren Clarke feat. Kathy Brown - Over You (Main Mix)
Buy at Juno Download (#14) | Released by Defected in 2001
Listen at YouTube | Spotify

This track is amazing, really needs special attention. I found this gem in Spotify as I was searching for tracks by Warren Clarke, but it was a bit harder to find in stores. In Juno Download, the original is only sold on the Hed Kandi Bargrooves Disco Heat 2 Compilation.

Everything just works in this disco banger, so go on and get it!

Deep to Funky

Prepare for the first (free!) set on Funkster!
It's played by "ARA-27" aka "MR Ford" from Edinburgh (Scotland).
The set starts with some nice deep – although still very funky – house and later on features even funkier tunes.
Maybe not the most mainstream material in there, but that's what makes it so interesting.

Summer Days Are Back In Town

Dino & Mousse T - Summer Days feat. Lisa (Mousse T Extended Summer Mix)
Buy at Juno Download | YouTube | Released by Ego in June 2010

Now that it's gotten a bit warmer again (at least here in Southern Finland) it feels like a good time to post this track that I'm deeply in love with. It's a very relaxing and light track with incredibly nice vocals. Really groovy and diverse. The more I listen to it, the more I like it.

Richard Shows How It's Done

Michael Canitrot - Desire (Richard Earnshaw's Classic Vocal Mix)
Buy at Juno Download | Released by Defected in July 2010
A juicy kick, rhodes and soulful vocals. What more do you need? This track gives big hope to the funky/soulful scene. And released by Defected! I haven't heard anything this good from them since...I can't even remember!

Groove Invaderz feat. Nicole Tyler - Keep Risin' (Richard Earnshaw Classic Vocal Mix)
Buy at Juno Download | Released by Double Shock in December 2009
This one instead has a catchy "rising" riff, still being very funky and soulful. Richard never misses. And as a fun surprise there is a synth solo at the end. Don't you miss it either!

Cavalcade of Basslines

Jamiroquai - Love Foolosophy (Raul Rincon Remix)
Buy at Discogs | Released by Columbia in 2006

Most Jamiroquai hardcore fans would never voluntarily let anybody alter their favorite music, but as it often is in the electronic music scene, it happens. Lucky for us though, since Raul Rincon is one of the few (still somewhat current) producers who understand the importance of a good bassline in a track.

Select an already funky Jamiroquai song, add some house flavor to it and we got this gem! In addition Raul really keeps the listener waiting for it by keeping the bassline to himself for quite a long time. First time we hear it is in the third minute and the main full-on chorus kicks in after the majority of the track has already passed, but it's an ingenious trick to raise it to new heights when it finally happens and it's totally worth it! Turn your amplifier to 11.

Röyksopp - Eple (Boris And Michi's Eplistic-Scratch-Attack)
Buy at Discogs | Released by Wall Of Sound in 2003

The second single, Eple, from Röyksopp's first album in 2001 is a pretty well-known track and it's been used numerous times by radio stations, advertisements and such. Apple even licensed it to be used as the introduction music for one of its software product, probably only because of the track name and the unusual (read: "new, hip and different, just like Apple wants itself to be viewed") feel of it - must've been a good deal for Röyksopp nonetheless! It wasn't quite the usual radio pop sound, borrowing some trip hop elements and fusing them with more dancey stuff in a style which was definitely their own.

Eple was re-released two years later with a bunch of remixes as a side dish, one of which was the Boris And Michi's Eplistic-Scratch-Attack. Behind a name like that is a surprisingly funky remake of Eple still having the cute little sinewave riff, but now with a full house backing including a four-to-the-floor beat (which has a great dragging feel to it!), obviously some fun scratching as per the name, very funk-esque guitars and a great new bassline that really is a huge cherry on the cake, if not the cake itself. I'm a bit surprised this version hasn't been a bigger success!

Shakedown - At Night (Kid Crème Club Mix)
Buy at Discogs | Released by Epic in 2002

While we're at it, let's squeeze in one more "classic" to the armada of tracks that quite probably have already seen their heyday among the mainstream of club-goers.

Back in 2002 this tune got pretty much everybody going mad while it was playing, and - what I think - for one pretty funky reason: the bassline. Backed up by the equally groovy drum beat and the slightly mangled guitar loop, there's not much that could've gone wrong. A touch of male and female vocals here and there and hey presto, you've got yourself a banging party track!

Soulful Can Also Be Funky

Yolanda Wyns - I Know You, I Live You (Joey Negro Remix)
Buy at Juno | Released by Z Records

Masters At Work - Backfired feat. India (Joey Negro Remix)
Buy at Juno | Released by Z Records

These are definitely the pearls from the soulful 20 Years Of Joey Negro compilation, but you might wanna check the others out too in case they take your fancy as well. These are actually Grant Nelson edits, but surely most of the honor still is entitled to Joey.

Both feature fat and jazzy bass lines, soulful vocals, funky guitars and wonderful brass sections. The first one is a bit more light and perhaps easier to like from the first time heard. With that spicy saxophone solo, it's definitely a must have if you're into soulful stuff. The second one is pretty awesome too, a bit more fat and maybe not as "clean" sounding, but still a great one to have in your collection.

Weekend Disco

Discotron - Get On Down
Buy at Juno | Released by Tasty Recordings

Discotron - Disco Bomb
Buy at Juno | Released by Tasty Recordings

Today I'm going to feature Discotron's newest EP, again from Tasty Recordings. They've really been releasing some hot disco sampled tunes lately and this one is no exception. Although it might not be as unique as some of the recent Audio Jacker remixes it's still a quality release and should get you dancing in no time.

A Bunch of Funk

Scrubfish - Holla If You Came To Funk
Buy at Juno | Released by Flapjack US

Brand new track from an EP released by Flapjack Records, also relatively new but promising label. The track, being probably some combination of jackin' house and jazzdance, is strictly not the meat of this blog, but there's no shortage of funk (albeit the word "funk" is included in the name, which is often a bad sign). A handful of brass, guitars, keys and vocal samples laid pseudo-randomly over a smooth and groovy beat make sure you keep tapping that foot on the floor. Another one on the EP, The Jazzface, is a bit deeper and less melodic but still a great track and seriously worth a listen if only for the sublime drumwork.

Sedat The Turkish Avenger - Fist Funk
Buy at Discogs | Released by Nocturnal Recordings

To balance the novelty of the previous track, here's a wacky tune also bearing the magical word in its name from 2003 by one of my favorite producers. With its daftly funky samples, crazy filters and a breakdown featuring a ludicrously berserk vocal loop it sure divides opinions. They all work excellently for me though and I've been enjoying this track with a smile ever since.

You Want This

Sonny Fodera - What Ya Want
Buy at Juno | Released by Drop Music

I really love the vibe in this one, so laid back and relaxing. A real mood lifter.

Disko Junkie - Lets Go (Audio Jacker Remix)
Buy at Juno | Released by Tasty Recordings

Two disco-influenced house bangers spiced up with Audio Jackers clean and funky drum work. What a nice way to start this blog off on my behalf.
See you again soon!
